Maryland Legislature Enacts New
Cash Option For Past Lottery Winners
Annapolis, MD (April 2006):
Maryland's Legislature has passed a new law that changes the State's lottery law. The new law gives past lottery winners the right to trade their remaining payments for up-front cash.
The new law is modeled on laws already in effect in dozens of other states and makes it possible for past winners to raise cash by selling their rights to receive future payments. The new code sections repeal and reenact, with amendments, Maryland State Government Code Section 9-122 and become effective on June 1, 2006.
